myEcoCost shows how communicating sustainability to consumers can be achieved in a timely and accurate way. As each purchase is made, an ecological cost for the product is transmitted from the supplier/retailer to the customer. The ecological cost is NOT a monetary unit. It provides a number of measures of ecological cost such as carbon footprint, water footprint or material footprint. These figures can be summarised into a total lifestyle footprint.
By comparing the ecoCost of your lifestyle to a scientifically determined sustainable "budget", each of us will know on a day by day basis whether we are living sustainably or not. Each person can then start to monitor and adjust consumption to gradually conform to a sustainable lifestyle. Lower impact purchase decisions will make an immediate contribution to improving one's planetary performance.
Consumption data that could change the way we view the world. It could bring environmental impact into every day thinking.
